The Chihuahuan Desert is the largest desert in North America, covering parts of the southwestern United States (Texas, New Mexico, Arizona) and northern Mexico, and is known for its high biodiversity, including numerous cactus species.

Some of the resilient flora that you can find here are: lechuguilla, sotol, ocotillo, and yucca. For thousands of years, these resilient plants have been deeply intertwined with the survival, culture, and traditions of Indigenous peoples and early pioneers in the region.

Today, WE are the people from the desert. It’s OUR desert, and we will continue defending it, protecting it and growing our roots deep and wide for as long as we inhabit this land.

I’m super happy to announce that the ‘Fiesta de Frida’ DIY Hand Embroidery Kits are now available for pre-order on my website.

These are patterns that I designed I few years back and this year I’ll be remaking only 10 of each. These are recommended for intermediate level embroiderers (those who have completed 5 to 10 projects).

Kits can be pre-ordered from Friday July 17th through Monday July 20th and will be ready for shipping or in-store pickup at the @stitchhouse915 (during store hours) on Friday July 24th.

You can choose from 3 different pattern designs. Please specify at checkout.

Each kit includes:
✅ 1 – 5-inch bamboo embroidery hoop
✅ 1 – Size 5 DMC brand embroidery needle
✅ 1 – 7×7 inch square of Mexican manta fabric with pre-traced pattern
✅ 9 – Skeins of DMC Mouline cotton embroidery thread
✅ 1 – printed stitch and color guide
✅ Extra baggie with size 5 beads in multiple colors to embellish your creation

Back in March, I designed sea themed embroidery patterns with the idea of using some of the most iconic Mexican traditional embroidery techniques. These 4 patterns are the ones that made it out of a bunch of sketches and finally turned into a class.

Thank you to all that have come to these summer embroidery sessions and pour your heart and creativity into these patterns.

Maybe next year I’ll pick up some of the other ideas I played around with. Mexican traditional embroidery is such an amazing source of inspiration! It truly feels like it’s never ending.

I already have things planned for fall season, but in the meantime, you are welcome to check my last sea creatures themed Mexican embroidery class next Wednesday July 22. This time, we’ll be stitching an axolotl with Mexican Tenango embroidery.

If your kiddos (ages 10-18) are artsy/crafty and they’re not ready to say goodbye to summer, bring them to my last Textile Arts week Kids summer camp at the @elpasomuseumofart

Camp will start next Monday July 20th through Friday July 24th from 10am to 1pm. All materials are provided and they’ll get to learn how to embroider on fabric, basic weaving, design and built their own plushie, how to make textile landscapes and small fiber art pieces.
