When I moved to EP with my husband, my then 5 year old daughter and my 6 month old baby, I remember feeling very glad for my kids and the opportunities for them here, but very deeply sad for me.

You might think that not a lot changes when you move from one borderland sister city to another, but it is different.

Your everyday changes completely.
Your closer friends remain closer, until they’re not.
You have to build different routines, understand that here you’ll be lucky if you get to know the names of your neighbors and get a “hello!” or “buenos días” from them.

Moving between borders definitely demands adjustment and assimilation, even if these places are geographically close to each other, specially at the beginning.

We moved to Eastside EP, and it was rapidly growing, but really there was not much for us to do.
We stayed like that for 3 or 4 years: work, school, homework, sleep, repeat.
And it took us that long to start venturing into exploring downtown with our little ones.

That’s when we found the amazing art on the old phone booths, and instantly @gabaldonart caught my eye. The colors and the composition immediately reminded me of the colors I grew up with in el centro of Ciudad Juarez.

Of course after this discovery I proceeded to stalk his art on IG, and that’s how I found his iconic landscape pieces, his cactus collection, the ocotillos, the mountains, but the one that truly made me feel like EP could absolutely become home for me, was the one where you can see both eagles on the international bridge.

For a long time I lived here in EP suspended in that space and feeling like cut off in half: between 2 eagles, 2 flags, 2 languages, 2 landscapes, 2 mountain systems. Patrick’s art helped me realize I didn’t had to live feeling divided like that.
I realized that I have ownership of all these parts of me and that I can make a summarized and amplified version of myself.

Patrick, thank you for giving me a sense of belonging with your art when everything around me felt a bit unfamiliar to me.
To own now a portrait by you means so so much to me and my family ❤️

Hola friends!
I’ve been a little MIA because we’re getting our new space ready for all of you!!🙌

Also, I’ve been working on a few samples of Needle Painting with the intention of offering a 3 sessions course in mid March, where you can come and create a monarch butterfly with needle painting.
But, although beautiful, needle painting is a very VEEEERYYY slow process. So yes, I’m taking my time.

For those that don’t know, Needle Painting is a realistic embroidery technique that uses long and short stitches in varying lengths and colors to create smooth, blended shading, mimicking painting with thread.
Is a beautiful way to portray nature or anything else.

These classes will be held at the @stitchhouse915 , which is located in the same building with @cushicushi915 and now also @vibras_bonitas_915

We’re all under the same roof, sharing the space, conversations and our love for all things stitchy and crafty, and we can’t wait to have you here with us.

Our official opening date is Saturday February 7th.
We’ll be running a few different activities during the day, so stay tuned for more updates these coming days.

Making a Hand Embroidered Journal was such a good way to decompress mentally.
It also helped me highlight and document crucial moments from 2025 with doodles and some abstractions that only I can understand.

It was not about pretty, or nice, or aesthetic or any of those things that sometimes get in the way (consciously or subconsciously) of creativity.
It was about making without any expectations, without deadlines, without rules.

I will try to continue with this practice, in hopes that one day, these pieces of fabric will be hold and cherish by those I love and care deeply for.
They will be little testaments of my life, of the time I walked this earth, for every stitch holds the essence of my hands, my heart and my soul.

Ooooooorrr… at the very least, maybe they’ll end up donated to an antique shop😂
