Exhibit and Class at Las Cruces Museum of Art

The Exhibit Artistas de las Fronterizas/ Borderland Contemporary Artists where four of my big hand embroidered pieces are on display along with other Fronterizo/Borderland artists will be available for viewing until December 16th, 2023.

Winner of the Joann Minority Creative Grant (2022)

Winning this Grant represented a great opportunity to create and explore more, to make all those crazy ideas that right now only live in my head, in my heart and in my sketches.

About Me

I started hand embroidering gifts for friends and family.

Honestly, they were pretty bad, but they help me practice and practice and eventually get better with the craft.

Throughout this exploration process, I fell in love with the possibilities of the thread and the needle and started to create more elaborated designs, mixing with acrylic or watercolor painting, beading, appliqués or felt patches from time to time.

Currently I do commission works and teach workshops around my community

And in all seriousness, much respect to anyone doing tutorials, videos and content. It takes sooooooo much freaking time!!!😭😭 Is not easy at all y’all!!So yeah, videos will not be posted very often. But hope you enjoy the few that get to be created and posted.And for this project, I recommend that you use a heavy weight paper such as watercolor or mix media paper.
But pretty much cardstock will do. Just don’t pull too much on your stitches.Lmk if you try any of these stitches.

I personally like to use a yarn needle, and the bigger and longer the needle, the better!!And of course, you can use a standard size 5 embroidery needle or just any household needle and thread.Just be mindful that if you use thinner thread and a smaller needle, you might need to stitch around more times to be able to pull the fabric and close.Let me know if you try it.

I’ve been a little MIA because we’re getting our new space ready for all of you!!🙌Also, I’ve been working on a few samples of Needle Painting with the intention of offering a 3 sessions course in mid March, where you can come and create a monarch butterfly with needle painting.
But, although beautiful, needle painting is a very VEEEERYYY slow process. I’ve been a little MIA because we’re getting our new space ready for all of you!!🙌

Also, I’ve been working on a few samples of Needle Painting with the intention of offering a 3 sessions course in mid March, where you can come and create a monarch butterfly with needle painting.

Making a Hand Embroidered Journal was such a good way to decompress mentally.
It also helped me highlight and document crucial moments from 2025 with doodles and some abstractions that only I can understand.It was not about pretty, or nice, or aesthetic or any of those things that sometimes get in the way (consciously or subconsciously) of creativity.
It was about making without any expectations, without deadlines, without rules.I will try to continue with this practice, in hopes that one day, these pieces of fabric will be hold and cherish by those I love and care deeply for.
They will be little testaments of my life, of the time I walked this earth, for every stitch holds the essence of my hands, my heart and my soul.
Ooooooorrr… at the very least, maybe they’ll end up donated to an antique shop😂If you’re interested in starting an Embroidered Journal, you can join my class on Saturday January 24th from 11am to 2pm.
