Hope you’re having a great start to your week.
I want to remind you of the Intro to Needle Painting course that I’ll be offering at the studio this month.

Needle painting is a hand embroidery technique that uses long and short stitches to blend colors and create a painted effect.
I love using this technique to create flowers, animals and anatomical patterns.

This is a 3 session course and each session is 3 hours long. You can take the complete course or get a brief introduction with 1 session (although, I do recommend that you invest and take the 3 sessions for better practice).

The subjects we’ll be discussing are:

1. Color Theory: Selecting and transitioning shades to create depth, light, and shadow.

2. Stitch Fundamentals: Mastering the “long and short” and split stitch to blend colors seamlessly.

3. Directional Stitching: Following the natural form of the subject to create realistic textures.

4. Pattern selection and Transferring Designs: Techniques for bringing patterns onto fabric.

5. Finishing: Techniques for framing or mounting completed embroidery pieces.

Puebla is a major city in central Mexico, located about 80 miles (130 km) southeast of Mexico City and is also a prominent Mexican center of pottery production that employs the technique of tin-enameled earthenware, known in Europe as maiolica.

This technique produces a hard opaque white glaze, which serves as a background for colorful, enamel-painted designs. The name Talavera alludes to the city of Talavera de la Reina, the major producer of colorful maiolica in Spain from the sixteenth to the mid-eighteenth century.

In this hand embroidery workshop, we’ll be stitching a pattern inspired in Talavera ceramic pottery.
