A little history about Purépecha Embroidery:
This embroidery originated in the mountaineer region of the state of Michoacán in Mexico, where indigenous Purépecha people still live.
The textiles created here are vibrant and colorful and these usually portray events such as fiestas, religious holidays, weddings, baptisms and the Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The women of the Tzintzuntzán town are very recognized for their hand embroidered depictions of rural farming and fishing life on many of the story cloths.
